Find a pattern in your library

Open the Pattern Library
Open Menu, then choose Pattern library. You will see patterns shared with you by Knitglass. - 2
Find the pattern you need
Use Search to find a title, filename, family or size. Choose Pattern families to browse grouped designs. If you have a promotion code, enter it to unlock its associated patterns. - 3
Check the size and open it
Sizes marked saved are ready to use. Select View pattern, Continue at row…, or Return to reader. If the size you need is not saved, contact Knitglass support.
Your progress belongs to your account. Opening a shared pattern does not change anybody else’s completed rows or notes.
Keep your place
Progress through your current project
Current project in the menu returns you to the pattern and row you were using. At the top of the reader, choose a saved size and switch between garment pieces such as the body, yoke or sleeves.
- Move to a rowClick a chart row, use the Previous and Next buttons, move the row slider, or use the arrow keys when the chart is focused.
- Record progressChoose Mark done or Done & next. Choose Undo done if you marked one by mistake.
- Understand the percentageCompletion is calculated only from rows you have marked done, not from the row currently selected.
- Check the originalUse Pattern source or View source page whenever you need to compare a row with the original PDF.
Everyday view
Use the standard reader
The standard reader keeps the stitch chart, current-row instruction and main progress controls together on the page. Chart is the normal visual view; Text provides a readable row-list alternative.
Move and zoom the chart
Click the chart to focus it. Scroll up or down to move through rows, drag sideways to pan, use the zoom controls, or pinch on a touch screen. Ctrl/⌘ + mouse wheel also zooms.
Read the active instruction
The highlighted chart row and instruction stay together. The row number, source page and stitch information update when you select another row.
Tip: Use the R1 top/bottom control if the printed chart runs in the opposite vertical direction. This changes how the chart is displayed, not your saved progress.
Pattern shorthand
Knitting abbreviations
The chart legend shows only the yarns and stitch symbols used by the current pattern piece. Hover over a light-grey square to see No stitch: the square is not worked and only keeps the shaped chart aligned. Pattern designers can use slightly different shorthand, so always check the original pattern’s own legend when it differs.

- Purl two stitches together as one; a decrease worked on the purl side.

- Slip two stitches separately, then knit them together; a left-leaning decrease.
- YOYarn over
- Wrap the yarn over the needle to create a stitch and usually an eyelet.
- SL1Slip one
- Move the next stitch to the other needle without working it.
- M1Make one
- Increase by making one new stitch.
- COCast on
- Create the first stitches on the needle.
- BOBind off / cast off
- Secure and remove stitches from the needle.
- ST / STSStitch / stitches
- One stitch, or more than one stitch.
- RSRight side
- The side of the work intended to face out.
- WSWrong side
- The side of the work intended to face in.
- REPRepeat
- Work the stated instruction again.
- REMRemaining
- The stitches or rows left after the stated action.
- PMPlace marker
- Put a stitch marker on the needle at this point.
- SMSlip marker
- Move the marker to the other needle as you pass it.
- DPN / DPNsDouble-pointed needle(s)
- Short needles with a point at both ends, often used for small pieces in the round.
Common spelling: Knit two together is written K2TOG—the final character is the letter G.
More working room
Use the maximised reader
Select the diagonal-arrow Maximize control, or press F. The reader expands to use the whole screen. Use the minimise control or press Esc to close it.
The chart stays alongside a reference pane. Switch that pane between Row instruction, Pattern source, Options & finishing, and Row map.
Chart, Row, Source, Options and Row map become separate full-height panes. Tap the pane you need instead of squeezing everything side by side.
The Row map is a fast way to jump to any row. Hover over shortened text on a computer to see the complete row instruction.
Reference view
See the whole chart at once
Whole chart opens a separate fit-to-screen view of all chart rows for the selected garment piece. It is designed for checking the overall motif and shaping.
- Use + and −, pinch, or Ctrl/⌘ + wheel to zoom.
- Drag left, right, up or down to inspect the chart.
- Select Fit to return the whole pattern to the available screen.
- This view does not select rows or change your progress.
App-like access
Install Knitglass on your device
Installing Knitglass adds its icon to your Home Screen, Start menu or Dock and opens it in its own app window. Open knitglass.com in the browser listed below, sign in, then follow the steps for your device.
Android phone or tablet
- Open Knitglass in Chrome.
- Choose Install when the Knitglass prompt appears.
- If you dismissed it, tap Chrome’s three-dot menu, choose Install and create shortcut, then Install. Some versions say Install app or Add to Home screen.
- Open Knitglass from its new Home Screen or app-list icon.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Knitglass in Safari.
- Tap the Share button.
- Scroll down and choose Add to Home Screen. If it is missing, choose Edit Actions and add it.
- Leave Open as Web App enabled if it is shown, then tap Add.
Windows computer
- Open Knitglass in Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
- Select the install-app icon at the right of the address bar, if shown.
- In Chrome, you can also choose the three-dot menu, Cast, save and share, then Install page as app.
- In Edge, choose the three-dot menu, More tools, Apps, then Install this site as an app.
Mac computer
- On macOS Sonoma 14 or later, open Knitglass in Safari.
- Choose File → Add to Dock, or choose Share → Add to Dock, then select Add.
- With Chrome or Edge, use the install-app icon in the address bar or the browser’s app-install menu.
- Open Knitglass from the Dock, Applications or Spotlight.
No installation prompt? It may already be installed, the prompt may have been dismissed, or your browser may use slightly different wording. Use the browser-menu steps above. Installation needs an internet connection.
For offline knitting, first open the saved pattern and size while online. Installing the app does not by itself download every pattern.
No connection needed
Offline mode is automatic
You do not need to switch offline mode on. While you are online, open the pattern and saved size you intend to use. Knitglass automatically stores that current size, all of its pattern parts and its source PDF on this device.

When the Working offline banner appears, Knitglass stops refreshing server state. Keep the page or installed app available, and do not clear browser site data. Your queued row changes sync automatically when the connection returns.

Install Knitglass

Reader settings
Choose how many chart rows remain visible and enable Keep screen awake while you knit. These preferences stay on this device.
Notes and diagnostics
Press N or choose Add row note while online. If something goes wrong, open Device diagnostics, copy the report and include it with the contact form.
